This isn't exactly a Jean Ritchie album, but features instead duets by Ritchie and Paul Clayton (both Ritchie and Clayton also take a couple solo turns, as well) with spoken word interludes by Appalachian storyteller Richard Chase inserted between the songs. The album itself was originally released some 40 years previously on Tradition Records, the label started in the early stages of the folk revival by song collector Diane Hamilton and Patrick Clancy of the Clancy Brothers. Given that this is really more of a Richard Chase outing than a Ritchie or Clayton one, since half the tracks consist of Chase's wry stories, listeners expecting a session of traditional folk songs may be somewhat disappointed. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
