"Bruce Hornsby alluring keyboards and earnest vocals have crossed career paths over the past 20 years with equally legendary performers such as Chaka Khan, Ornette Coleman, Jerry Garcia, Shawn Colvin and Branford Marsalis, among dozens of others. Bruce has recorded an entire album of hypnotically inspirational material with country music superstar and multi-instrumental ace, Ricky Skaggs. And the menu for this titanic collaboration is just as fascinating as the performers, themselves: a return to the Bill Monroe-inspired bluegrass roots of Skaggs' Kentucky heritage, with most of the material penned by Hornsby. To hear Hornsby's brilliant piano added to the Skaggs-led traditional bluegrass lineup of mandolin, guitar, fiddle and banjo is a revelation. Hornsby and Skaggs swap lead and harmony vocals as they’re joined by Ricky’s ace band, Kentucky Thunder on “Mandolin Rain, “Across The Rocky Mountains,” and a reinvention of Rick James’ 1981 funk-infused chart smash “Super Freak.”

Simply Refreshing and Always Delivering the Goods!
One and all- Talk about one of the most sought after and hotest collaborations around! This will have you all begging for more! This show featuring the every talented duo of Ricky Skaggs and my good old friend Bruce Hornsby is hot, from some cool bluegrass remakes of Bruce's Best- Mandolin Rain to you'll never believe Rick James' Superfreak! This is what music is and should be all about! These two guys are indeed some of the most talented musicians of our time! So make sure you pick up the CD on the 20th and just a plug for Bruce- for all you who think he is the same old guy from the 1986 album "The Way It Is!" You are sadly mistaken! He has taken his music, his instrument and his distinctive style to a whole new level and continues to amaze all who have learned to appreciate a musician who is not focused on the ego-driven, cookie cutter, one hit wonder mentality that music is all caught up in today! You the man Bruce and thanks for all the great years of some of the finest music of our times! Don't forget to check out Bruce's Intersections Box Set too, what a goldmine! Great job Ricky and Bruce!

Amazing
Just when you thought you've heard Hornsby do all his tunes every way possible, he joins Skaggs for some awesome reworks and new material. Saw the CMT special and was thoroughly impressed. I'll be picking up the new cd and hope to see the two tour in the very near future.

Incredible
I saw the CMT Crossroads show last night. The musicianship of Bruce, Ricky, and Kentucky Thunder was simply amazing. You could see the joy of these performers playing together. Renditions of formerly recorded Bruce songs were so differentthat they are like first-time recordings of newly written songs. I just wish all the songs performed on the show would be on the album. I would love to see a CD of the Crossroads show performed live.

Addition to a previous review
The perfomance of "Super Freak" by Bruce, Ricky, Kentucky Thunder and John Anderson on the CMT Crossroads show takes a Rick James song, which I previously thought of as trash, and converts it to a fun and exciting piece of excellent, original music. Am looking forward to purchasing the album. It's just amazes me what great artists can do with probably any piece of music.

Sure to be a hit
Crossroads version of "That's Just The Way It Is" was brilliant. Real Disappoint it's not included on CD.

It Was Great!!
Caught the Crossroads Show by accident...flipping channels. This was so great, I DVRed it and watch/listen it almost everyday. Sorry the show wasn't recorded for the CD. I can't believe how great it was.

Incredible pairing, disappointing compilation
The Crossroads television collaboration between these two was a blockbuster, led off by "The Way It Is". What a huge disappointment to buy the CD and discover that this song wasn't included!
