This generous 32-track album is a ton of fun, featuring early Nashville country and hillbilly sides that range from odd fractured ballads to careening Western swing and boogie pieces that are full of a kind of infectious joy and goofiness. Among the many highlights are Randy Hughes' "Roll on Freight Train," Lonnie Smith's "You're My Honky Tonk Angel," Lee Bond's Hank Williams-like "For Sale, One Broken Heart," Dink Embry's chugging "Mason Dixie Boogie," and a galloping piano-led version of "John Henry" by Roy Hall.
