After becoming a bona fide superstar in the wake of "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue," Toby Keith refused to play it safe, blowing up his persona to mythic heights on 2003's Shock'n Y'All, stretching his musical legs on Honkytonk University, and calling off all bets with the Lari White-produced White Trash with Money, where he got soulful and soft in equal measures. After that trilogy of exploration, Keith snaps back to the basics on Big Dog Daddy, his first self-produced album and his first album of nothing but pure, hardcore country since his star rose in the early years of the new millennium. This isn't a retreat as much as it's a reaffirmation of his strengths as a singer, songwriter, performer, and interpreter. Indeed, two of the highlights here are covers of Craig Wiseman's sighing "Love Me If You Can" and Fred Eaglesmith's "White Rose," a warm, bittersweet slice of nostalgia that highlights how Keith really tells a story when he sings. But if these, along with a handful of Keith originals, highlight his often overlooked sensitive side -- love songs rarely come as sweet as "I Know She Hung the Moon," heartbreak songs are rarely as aching as "Walk It Off" -- this album swings and swaggers as much as the title boasts. There's the galloping "Get My Drink On," the old-time rock & roll title track (Chuck Berry turned into country-rock via Bob Seger), and the irresistible Bobby Pinson collaboration "Pump Jack," and Keith finds the middle ground between these extremes with the remarkable "Wouldn't Want to Be Ya," which turns a cliché inside out, rendering it remarkably affecting. And that's the real secret to Keith's success: underneath all the bragging he's a songwriter and a damn good one at that, which this lean, sinewy, stripped-to-the-basics record makes clear. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Toby's Best CD - They just keep getting better!
I constantly hear "Love Me If You Can" over over in my mind. "I Know She Hung The Moon" and "Get My Drink On" are GREAT!!! Saw him in concert in B'ham, AL on June 21, 2007 and hearing him sing from the BIG DOG DADDY CD was awesome. His mini movie "Big Dog Daddy and Possum Boy (Larry The Cable Guy)" before he came on stage, was a riot. I was 10th row center and if he has a show near you, get your tickets as soon as you can!!

Just awesome!
This one is awesome. I love everything Toby does, but, I think this is his best so far. Some of the songs are sensitive, some are more upbeat but he sings them all from the heart.

BIG DOG DADDY DELIVERS
Toby Keith's new CD, Big Dog Daddy, is a well-defined compilation of all his talents. Songwriter. Musician. Vocalist. And now, Producer. From the first track to the last, it is filled with high energy and emotion. Toby showcases his ability to appeal to the masses. The first track and single 'High Maintenance Woman' rocketed up the charts. He has always had the knack of being able to tell a story in a humorous way AND wrap it into a 3-minute-or-so song. Not to be outdone, the title track 'Big Dog Daddy' and 'Hit It' brings us right into the bars with him. There are 3 more rocking tunes that get you beating on the steering wheel or dancing down the hallway. Don't want to give away the whole CD but, On the flip side (a term used from the days of vinyl), Toby brings heart and emotion into the mix. From memories of a young, passionate love in 'Burnin' Moonlight' to the loss of love in 'Walk It Off'. A beautifully written ballad is 'I Know She Hung the Moon.' What woman wouldn't want to hear from her man, 'You'd see that she's just as pretty on the inside too, Yeah, I know she hung the moon.' Toby prides himself on being his own song factory as he knows what his fans want to hear. This time he stepped out and recorded two tracks from other songwriters. 'White Rose' by Fred Eaglesmith is a nostalgic look at small towns of yesteryear. 'Love Me If You Can,' the newest single is so well crafted, Toby said it sounded like he wrote it himself. In short, this CD has something for everyone. In Toby's own words, 'You know I got all the tools and I can satisfy.' Yes, he does. TKIFC member: Bullgator96

BDD is a MUST have!
I recently joined the TKIFC and received Toby's new CD, Big Dog Daddy, is awesome! The songs reach out to all types of people. From the upbeat tempo of High Maintenance Woman and the title track, Big Dog Daddy to the ballad lovers with Burnin' Moonlight and I Know She Hung The Moon. The dancing fanatics and partiers will enjoy Hit It and Get My Drink On. A country album isn't complete without a relationship song, Wouldn't Wanna Be Ya tells a story you wouldn't normally expect but it's well written and sticks with you. Of course, Toby didn't leave out his patriotism and compassion on this CD either. Love me if you can shows his love for his country, God, fellow people, family and his personal views. ~ zoomer

Toby Keith Returns to Full Blown Honky Tonk Roots in This CD
1. High Maintainence Woman-Is a Jump, Jiving, Hip Hopping Tune and The Ultimate You Don't Know I'm Alive and I Will never Be Good Enough For You Song and I Love it. 2. Best Yet!!!
We actually have 2 copies of the CD because my husband has it in his car and then I never see it again. It is great! TK never ceases to amaze me with his creativity and humor. I would love to see him in concert one of these days but he doesn't come to the Northwest often.

It is such an awesome cd
I listen to your CD everyday. My #1 favorite song is High Maintenance Woman. But mostly I love then all. I also have Unleashed. The angry american was an awesome song. in your high Maintenance woman video when the fat guy Jake showed his chest i loved how when you said "I ain't asked her out Yet" in a disgusted looking way that made me laugh. in "Love Me if you can" what was that building for because it was cool looking. I also watched that one Tavis Smiley show when you performed high maintenance woman. I LOVE YOU TOBY. your the best. I wish i could see you down in Harrington but i can't, maybe next year toby.
